About Mr. Medley

Charles Medley graduated from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University located in Normal, Alabama, where he earned a degree in special education with a concentration in mild learning behavior disorders. After serving as a classroom teacher for a period, he came to New Orleans in 2007 to be part of the initial charter reform movement and began working to transform schools in various capacities.

Medley also spent time on the east coast at the Paulo Freire School for Social Justice in Newark, New Jersey, and then worked in New Orleans with the alternative high school population implementing restorative practices and assisting students with diploma completion.

Medley feels that his best quality as a teacher is patience. “I’m very patient with the students and their parents, and I never give up on my students and would try out new ways to help them succeed in school,” he said.

Favorite Performance Character Trait: Social Intelligence

“[Social intelligence] registers the most with me, because it aligns closely with my personality and work style,” he said. “I have the ability to carry on conversations with a wide variety of people, attune myself to what others are saying, and let others see my true self.”
