About Monica Pilkington
Monica Pilkington is currently studying at REACH University, where she is earning her Bachelor of Arts in Lower School Education. Before joining Athlos, she worked in the medical field as a lead unit secretary for 15 years.
Monica began her journey at Athlos as a general education paraprofessional, later transitioning to a SPED paraprofessional in a child-specific role. Inspired and encouraged by the Athlos community, she returned to school and was offered the opportunity to serve as a student teacher. She is now in her third year as a SPED Inclusion Teacher and enjoys every moment of helping students succeed.
Her top goal as an educator is to make a difference in a child’s life—whether it is teaching them to hold a pencil correctly, read fluently, or tie their shoes. She is passionate about ensuring students succeed in whatever they put their minds to. Monica’s greatest strength as an educator is the empathy and compassion she brings into the classroom each day.
She looks forward every year to watching her students grow and achieve new milestones as they continue their education. Monica was drawn to the Athlos model because it is built on more than academic proficiency; it also emphasizes physical wellness and strong character development, which she believes are essential to a child’s success.
Favorite Performance Character Trait:
CURIOSITY
My favorite character trait would have to be curiosity. I chose this trait because I love seeing my student’s little minds think outside of the box. This trait allows our students to show their creativity side and it also enhances empathy and communication as well.
