Mary Galatas

Mary is a dedicated educator with nearly four decades of teaching experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University of Wisconsin, where she majored in Management and minored in Communications. Her educational journey also includes studies at Dillard University, Xavier University—where she was crowned Miss Freshman in 1976—and Our Lady of Holy Cross of New Orleans.

Originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Mary moved to New Orleans to pursue higher education and has since committed herself to teaching in both private and Catholic schools, educating students from kindergarten through high school. The upcoming school year marks her 39th year in education and her 6th year at Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish.

Mary’s goal as an educator is to foster her students’ personal growth, strong character, and the skills necessary to become responsible and productive individuals. She believes her greatest strength is integrity, and she brings that quality into every aspect of her teaching.

She looks forward to working closely with her students and their families, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in supporting each child’s success. Mary also values the collaborative spirit among her colleagues at Athlos, where the school culture truly feels like a home away from home.

Mary was drawn to Athlos Academy because of its unique emphasis on the Three Pillars: Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character. She believes these pillars are essential in helping every student grow not only academically, but also physically and emotionally.
