Governing Board

Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish is governed by a dedicated board comprised of parents, teachers, and community members. The board is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing policy; instituting sound employee relations; conducting open meetings; recognizing and conforming to the legal mandates imposed by state and federal laws; and governing within the limits of the delegation of state authority as a non-profit and public school board.

Additionally, the board has an obligation to assess its successes and challenges, inform the public of all deliberations and decisions, promote accountability, avoid abuse of power, enhance public understanding of its mission, conform to standards of ethical behavior, provide a framework for setting goals, and develop strategic plans for the accomplishment of those goals.

Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish’s Board of Directors will be holding their annual elections in July and are looking for individuals who are interested in serving on the board.

The election will take place at a special meeting of the board on July 7th at 7pm.

Serving as a board member is a volunteer position that takes 5-10 hours of time per month which includes the monthly board and committee meetings. As a board member, you will have the unique opportunity to help steer school finances, policies, and initiatives in ways you are passionate about.

Board Goals: 2020–2021

Athlos stakeholder interaction will increase by ensuring that stakeholders are aware of avenues to express their concerns, because we believe that an engaged community is important to student achievement and building a positive culture.

This will be measured by:

  • The creation of a standard operating procedure/policy for expressing concerns, including guidelines for responsiveness to concerns.
  • Improvement in panorama scores related to expressing concerns/responsiveness

The Athlos Board will explore the bonding process through review of necessary financial and academic metrics feasibility, and timing of bonding, because we believe the financial stability of a charter school is a key component of its long-term success and viability.

This will be measured by:

  • Bonding representative to present the board needed metrics
  • Periodic reports from the finance committee to the board of feasibility and timing of bonding

The Athlos Board, with input from staff and school leaders, will review and enhance the scope of policies and procedures to provide teachers with guidelines to facilitate their success in the classroom because we believe that clear standards and expectations enhance teacher performance and contribute to job satisfaction.

This will be measured by:

  • Completion of policy review by June 2021
  • Improvement in scores on Panorama survey related to teacher job satisfaction
  • Improvement in retention rates to reach 75%.

Under the direction of the board, a finance committee and a governance committee have been formed.
