Octavia Riley

Octavia is a proud 2009 graduate of Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO), where she earned her degree in General Studies with a focus in Elementary Education. She has brought with her a wealth of life experience, having worked in clerical roles for the State of Louisiana and teaching Pre-K both before and after completing her degree. She joined the Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish (AAJP) community after retiring from state service, ready to continue her passion for education.

Octavia’s goal as an educator is to help build strong academic and personal foundations for every student, preparing them to become well-rounded, responsible, and successful citizens in their communities. She believes that communication is one of her greatest strengths—particularly in creating open, honest, and trusting relationships with both students and their families. She values maintaining an open line of communication with parents, ensuring they feel confident and comfortable when discussing their most valuable possession—their child.

In the classroom, Octavia takes time to understand each student’s strengths and areas for growth, and works hard to ensure her expectations are clear and supportive. She is deeply committed to helping her students grow, not just academically, but personally, and finds great joy in witnessing their development over the course of the school year.

Octavia was drawn to the mission of Athlos Academy because of its commitment to developing the whole child through its Three Pillars: Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character. She believes this holistic approach plays a vital role in shaping students who are not only knowledgeable but confident, compassionate, and ready for life.
