To the Athlos School Community,
We are reaching out today to share information about the potential future of operations in the Athlos building at 979 Behrman Hwy, Terrytown, LA.
As you may know, Athlos Academy’s charter will expire at the end of this school year. We are pleased to inform you that the Young Audiences Charter Association has expressed a strong interest in relocating its current K-8 school, located at the Kate Middleton Campus in Gretna, to our location on Behrman Hwy. Young Audiences is a highly rated school with a great track record of success in Jefferson Parish.
If Young Audiences is able to relocate, it will be able to enroll all our current students residing in Jefferson Parish with minimal disruption to them and their families. They are dedicated to continuing the work we’ve started and serving the families of the West Bank. Currently, Young Audiences is in discussions with bondholders and attempting to work through a complex set of business transactions to make this transition a reality. There is a lot of work to do, but if these details are successfully resolved, Young Audiences aims to begin operations in the Athlos building in the 2026–27 school year and beyond. We want to make clear that the final business transaction is far from complete; we will not know for several weeks whether Young Audiences will be able to proceed, but we are encouraged by the progress made.
For Athlos families living in Orleans Parish, there is availability to attend Young Audiences Orleans Parish school located in Uptown New Orleans. Transportation is provided.
As we learn more, we will share it immediately. In the meantime, we are asking all parents who plan to continue sending their students to the campus at 979 Behrman Hwy, if Young Audiences were to assume operations, to complete the survey via the attached link. We will be holding a parent information night with Young Audiences on Friday March 27th at 4:00 p.m. at the Athlos campus. Please plan to attend. More details will be sent in the coming weeks.
