Tyra Bernard
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
About Tyra Bernard
Tyra Bernard is an enthusiastic and compassionate educator with a strong commitment to supporting students with diverse needs. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Louisiana State University and was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. With six years of experience working with children with special needs—and three of those years at Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish—Ms. Bernard brings both expertise and heart to her role in special education.
Her top goal as an educator is to ensure that neurodivergent students receive the individualized support and services they need to reach their full potential. She is passionate about helping every learner achieve academic success while also developing the skills necessary for greater independence and personal growth.
Ms. Bernard’s greatest strength lies in her ability to actively listen to her students. She approaches teaching with patience, resilience, and fairness, creating a safe and supportive environment where every child feels heard, understood, and empowered. Her dedication to building trust and fostering personal development helps students thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Each year, Ms. Bernard looks forward to the joy of teaching at Athlos—especially the opportunity to connect with, support, and inspire the children she serves. She was drawn to the Athlos model because of its holistic approach to education. By nurturing the Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character, she believes Athlos prepares students for success far beyond the classroom walls.
