Cynthia Thomas

Cynthia Thomas is a dedicated educator and veteran music professional with decades of experience teaching, directing, and inspiring students. Prior to joining Athlos, she served as a Talented Music teacher in the Jefferson Parish School System. Her classroom experience spans K–12, where she fosters environments that encourage engagement and creative expression.

A graduate of Warren Easton, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), and Loyola University of New Orleans, Cynthia brings her professional artistry into her teaching, showing students how discipline, creativity, and collaboration intersect in both education and life. Beyond the classroom, she has led choirs, organized performances, and prepared students for competitions at local, regional, and national levels.

Her achievements as a singer, songwriter, and producer include recording solo projects, contributing to Billboard-charting gospel albums, collaborating with Ellis Marsalis, Jr., and performing internationally. She has also appeared on national television, with her music featured in the Hallmark movie GirlFriendShip (2023) and the PBS documentary The Underground Railroad: The Paths and Places of Refuge (2025).

Cynthia’s top goal as an educator is to positively impact children’s lives and inspire them to reach their highest potential. She believes her greatest strength is the ability to connect with her students and motivate them to aim high. Each year, she looks forward to the smiling faces and morning greetings from her students. She was drawn to Athlos because of its dedication to the Fine Arts and its commitment to nurturing the whole child.
