On-campus School Opening
Q. Will the teachers be doing virtual and in person teaching at the same time?
We will have teachers dedicated to online teaching and teachers dedicated to on-campus teaching. All Upper School teachers will provide instruction to distance learning students and on-campus students at different times throughout the school day, depending on the students schedule.
Q. What is the latest time for driveline drop off and pickup?
Before school 7:40-8:00 a.m. After school 3:15-4:00 p.m.
Q. Are the bus routes and times staying the same as last year?
No, new bus routes will be sent to families as they complete the bus request form. Routes may be subject to change in the first weeks of school as details are finalized.
Q. Students already doing 504 services virtually- will those remain virtual or will the therapists be returning to campus?
Regarding outside services (speech, OT, PT, APE, and counseling), we have been working closely with the company we contract with around the reopening of campus. They have agreed to service students virtually or on-campus. Once we have a better picture of which students will be remaining virtual and which will be returning, we will develop a master schedule. So, in short, we are able to offer services to the child, on-campus or virtual.
Q. Is before care still being provided (form only stated after care)?
Details are being finalized and will be communicated to parents as soon as possible.
Q. What special accommodations are being made with students with bathroom issues?
Students will be escorted as needed by the paraprofessionals. Traditionally, self-contained SPED students have used the staff restroom on the 7th grade hallway, this will not change. All IEP/504 accommodations will remain in effect.
Q. What procedures are being changed regarding students receiving medication on campus and how can we access the forms to be completed by the doctor?
Similar to the bathroom question, paraprofessionals will escort any student in need of medication to the nurse. If parents are in need of medication forms, they should reach out to the school nurse.
The students will come to the Nurse’s Office to receive their medication since it will be considered the “well area” and sick kids will go to the quarantine room. The nurse is making a list of which students receive, medication, and the intervals to attempt to minimize large groups of students in the Nurse’s Office. In the Nurse’s Office, there are chairs 6 feet/greatest extent and it allows for 4 students at a time. If there are more students, they can wait in the hallway, on the floor markers until called in. Chairs will be cleaned after each student sits on it and all proper hygiene.
The medication order can be found online at the Louisiana department of health. Please print it out online to bring to the pediatrician, to then bring to the school. Please ensure the nurse receives this document, immediately. https://ldh.la.gov/assets/oph/pcrh/asthma/1106MedicationOrderforLouisianaPublicSchoolsFINAL2.pdf
Q. If a parent remains as virtual, can it be changed at the end of each 9 weeks and vice-versa?
As a parent, we honor your choice. You may fill out the “Intent to Return” form and submit to Ms. Faith Wilson, indicating your desire to return or pivot. We are recommending making the shift at the 9-week period.
Q. If we submit the commitment form to return but transportation is an issue, are we able to remain as virtual?
As a parent, we honor your choice. You may fill out the “Intent to Return” form and submit to Ms. Faith Wilson, indicating your desire to return or pivot. We are recommending making the shift at the 9week, period.

School hours are 8:00 am-3:15 a.m. Driveline times are 7:40-8:00 a.m. before school and 3:15-4:00 p.m. after school. Bus routes will be sent to families as they complete the bus request form. Routes may be subject to change in the first weeks of school as details are finalized.
Q. If my child continues with distance learning will her teachers remain the same? If she returns to campus will she have the same teachers she has now on distance learning?
Due to staffing, we cannot guarantee that the teacher will remain the same.

No, there will be teachers dedicated to on-campus teaching and teachers dedicated to distance learning. All Upper School teachers will provide instruction to distance learning students and on-campus students at different times throughout the school day, depending on the students schedule.
Q. The reopening plan did not specify how the school will improve indoor ventilation. Does the school plan on installing HEPA filters or has the school HVAC system been upgraded to ensure the healthiest indoor ventilation?
The filters have been replaced with top of the line, pleated filters. Additionally, new air purifiers are being installed in the isolation room.
Q. How will distance learning work for students who choose not to return to campus? Will students have recorded lessons only?
Distance learning will continue as it is now, with live office hours and pre-recorded lessons.

Distance Learning
Q. Where do I find my child’s distance learning schedule?
A. Distance learning schedules and team assignments can be found at: https://www.athlosjp.org/distance-learning-schedules-and-upper-grade-teams/
Q. Why are there team names (example: Avengers, Pride) and Homeroom names (example: Athlos Homeroom) in the schedules for upper grades (5-8)?
Students are assigned a team or homeroom grouping based on their homeroom teacher. These teams will follow the schedules together. Please see your team assignment at: https://www.athlosjp.org/distance-learning-schedules-and-upper-grade-teams/
Q. I notice schedules start at 8 a.m. Does my child need to log on at 8 a.m.?
While it is encouraged that students participate in their pre-recorded sessions at the scheduled times, we understand schedules may not accommodate this. Students are recommended to follow their schedule for watching pre-recorded sessions; however, if they are unable to watch them at the scheduled time, they may watch them at any time during the day.
Q. What are A days and B days in grades 6 and 7 schedules? There are only four days on the schedule, do they participate in only four days?
No. Students in all grades will attend distance learning five days a week. In grades six and seven, students will alternate between A and B days every other day. Example:
Week 1
Monday A
Tuesday B
Wednesday A
Thursday B
Friday A
Week 2
Monday B
Tuesday A
Wednesday B
Thursday A
Friday B
Q. How will attendance take place?
Attendance in live sessions will support full understanding of content and will help your child build community with their peers and teachers. However, attendance is based on exit tickets that must be completed daily no later than midnight and test understanding of content delivered in recorded lessons.
Q. What is an exit ticket?
Exit tickets, short assessments to test your student’s understanding of recorded lessons, will be due daily no later than midnight. These will also count as your child’s attendance for that day.
Q. Will students be on a schedule with live videos or if they will be pre-recorded videos or both. Will they have a homeroom teacher or will it just be a different teacher for each subject etc.?
Similar to in the spring, students will have access to pre-recorded lessons and teachers will hold live Zoom office hours.
Q. Are students required to attend live Zoom office hours?
Participation in Zoom office hours is highly recommended for all students so they may get the most of their distance learning. These live hours give students the opportunity to work collaboratively with their classmates and take part in real-time instruction with their teacher.
Q. Is a parent expected to be present while distance learning is taking place?
No, parents do not need to be present while distance learning takes place; however, we encourage parents to participate in their child’s distance learning experience and support their learning from home.
Q. If we choose to withdraw our child and homeschool them during COVID, will their spot be held so they can enroll next year?
According to our enrollment policy, we cannot reserve spots once a family chooses to withdraw. If you choose to homeschool your children, they would be officially transferred from Athlos Academy and would have to re-apply if you choose to re-enroll them at a later date. Their seats would not be guaranteed. It is our aim, however, to offer two learning options for families beginning after Labor Day, on-campus learning or distance learning.
Q. Will families who are distance learning need to purchase school supplies?
Yes, with exception of sanitizing and other cleaning items, please see our most recent updated supply list here.
Q. How will my child access distance learning?
All distance learning information is centrally located in our Clever portal.

Q. I don’t have access to technology, will it be provided to my student?
A device will be provided to students who do not have access to a device that will support their distance learning. Please contact our tech support team if you need a device at: techhelp@athlosjp.org.
Q. Does the online learning have to be done during specific times or can a working parent have the child on in the evening doing some of the work instead of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.?
Aside from scheduled Zoom meeting times, all online learning can take place on a schedule that works best for the student and family.
