INSTRUCTIONAL COACH K-2

About DeMeredith Griffin

DeMeredith Griffin graduated from Xavier Prep High School in 1995, and then received her associate’s degree in early childhood education from Delgado Community College and her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Phoenix.

DeMeredith has been a near-lifelong resident of New Orleans on the Westbank. After Hurricane Katrina, she moved to Lacey, Washington, for two and a half years before returning to Louisiana. While in Lacey, she taught pre-K at Tutor Time Learning Center. She’s always had a passion for working with kids. Before working at Athlos Academy, she taught in daycare centers and provided reading and math intervention for grades K-8 for eight years as a Title l teacher.

DeMeredith was drawn to the Athlos model because it focuses on developing the whole child, and has been with Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish ever since the doors opened in 2018! She says that her best quality as an educator is that she always puts her students first and has a gift of reaching students where they are and getting to know them to educate them successfully. DeMeredith believes that once students are comfortable and trust a teacher, they are more likely to put their best foot forward and get the most out of their education!

In addition, DeMeredith believes that kindergarten is critical to a student’s education because it lays an essential foundation. “Kindergarten is so important for children because it provides the foundation for learning and enhancing social skills,” she said. “If children succeed in kindergarten, the foundation is set for them to succeed as they progress in further education.” She says that teaching kindergarten can be challenging at times, but she’s up for that challenge and her top goal is to leave each school year knowing that I’ve done my best preparing my kindergarteners for 1st grade, as well as help them develop more as well rounded individuals.
