Ms. DeMeredith Griffin

KINDERGARTEN TEACHER

About Ms. Griffin

DeMeredith Griffin graduated from Xavier Prep High School in 1995. She received her associate’s degree in early childhood education from Delgado Community College and her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Phoenix. Ms. Griffin has been a near-lifelong resident of New Orleans on the Westbank. After Hurricane Katrina, she moved to Lacey, Washington, for two and a half years before returning to Louisiana. While in Lacey, she taught pre-K at Tutor Time Learning Center.

Ms. Griffin says she has always had a passion for working with kids. Before working at Athlos Academy, she taught in daycare centers and provided reading and math intervention for grades K-8 for eight years as a Title l teacher. Ms. Griffin has taught kindergarten in a traditional classroom for five years now, three of which have been with Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish. Ms. Griffin feels that she has the gift of reaching students where they are and getting to know them to educate them successfully. “Once students are comfortable and trust a teacher, they are more likely to put their best foot forward and get the most out of their education,” she said.

In addition, Ms. Griffin believes that kindergarten is critical to a student’s education because it lays an essential foundation. “Kindergarten is so important for children because it provides the foundation for learning and enhancing social skills,” she said. “If children succeed in kindergarten, the foundation is set for them to succeed as they progress in further education.”Ms. Griffin says that teaching kindergarten can be challenging at times, but she is up for that challenge!

Favorite Performance Character Trait: Focus/Self-Control

“The Performance Character trait that I identify with most is Focus/Self-Control,” she said. “To be my best self, I have to be focused and remember that I am here for the students and their parents. It takes a great deal of self-control and focus to ensure students receive everything they need, whether emotionally or academically, while in my care.”
