Learn About Kindergarten at Athlos Academy

Learn about Kindergarten

Greetings, Parents of Future Athlos Academy Scholars,

I am Ms. Tinya L. Landry, the Assistant Principal of Kindergarten through grade three here at Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish. I am overjoyed to be writing this letter to let you know some of the exciting things that we have going at our school!

I have been an educator for over 20 years, wearing many hats, from Curriculum Specialist, Master Teacher to Instructional Coach.  I have worked at several schools, but none like Athlos Academy!  We love the process of molding young minds, building our community, and teaching our scholars not only about Reading, Writing, and Math but also about leadership, courage, integrity, and creativity.  Athlos Academy is a learning institution where children thrive!  Our Kindergarten teachers are kind, caring and outgoing.  We become an extension of your family, and when something concerns your child, it concerns us.

We have adopted an excellent phonics curriculum and other educational activities and learning modalities that focus on literacy and numeracy so that our scholars are literate all the way around.  We celebrate learning through our morning literacy circles and our RAINBOW WORD PARTIES, where students get a list of 25 sight words tied to a specific color of the rainbow.  As students learn the words, they are assessed, and upon being successful on the assessment, they get to wear that color and enjoy a party with that color snacks, balloons, dancing, music, and other fun activities.  We believe that learning should be fun and student engagement should be celebrated BIG and often.

Our teachers participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) twice a week, examining the latest in best educational practices and school-wide strategies and reading scholarly articles to deliver a top-notch education to our students in the classroom.  In addition, our scholars have art, music, foreign language, and athletic movement classes that further bolster educating the whole child.

I can go on and on about our outstanding school and its splendor, but there aren’t enough words. Please schedule a visit and come see for yourself!  I believe in the work we do every day, so much so that my six-year-old is a scholar here!

Most sincerely,

Tinya L. Landry, MA
