About Ms. Hill

Ms. Melinda Hill brings over 20 years of teaching experience and a deep passion for education to Athlos Academy. A proud graduate of L.W. Higgins High School (Class of ’83) and a product of the Jefferson Parish School System, Ms. Hill earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Southern University at New Orleans. While in college, she discovered her true calling—teaching—after realizing she was constantly helping others learn. As she puts it, “Teaching is my calling.”

Throughout her career, Ms. Hill has taught across grade levels, beginning in high school and even working with the Youth Work Program at juvenile court. She believes strongly in the power of structure and routine, and she credits her classroom management skills as one of her greatest strengths. She also emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships with both students and parents, knowing that connection is key to student success.

At her core, Ms. Hill is a devoted mother of two adult children and a proud “MeMe” to her beloved granddaughter, Arden-Li. Coming from a family of ten, she values strong family ties and brings that same sense of community into her classroom. In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, and event planning.

What drew Ms. Hill to Athlos was the school’s emphasis on athletic movement—a component she believes is essential yet too often overlooked in today’s schools. What she values most about teaching at Athlos is the sense of family she’s found—not just with the staff, but with her students as well. Her goal each day is to make learning fun, engaging, and meaningful for every child she teaches.

Favorite Performance Character Trait:

SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE & GRIT

One of my favorite trait is social intelligence, because it sums up my personality. Education is crucial, but also you have to know how to work with others as well. Like our theme this year, “TEAM”! Together Everyone Achieves More; it is so important for our students to have social skills. Social intelligence is a part of what makes up a well-rounded person.

The reason why Grit is my other favorite trait is because every day may bring on something different but you have to persevere and not give up.
